Kalijai Temple (Odisha) ::- Kalijai Temple Is Located On An Island In Chilika Lake Of Odisha State.The Island Is famous As A Center Of Religious Worship Due To The Temple Of Goddess Kalijai. The Kalijai Island Is About A 30 Min Boat Ride From The Balugaon Jetty. The temple Is Surrounded By The Water Of Chilika Lake From All Sides. The Temple Got Its Name As Maa Kali Is Worshiped Inside The Temple. Most Of Fisherman Worshiped Goddess Kali And Called Her As Goddess Of Good Times. 

History of The Temple::- It Is Strong Belief That Once A Girl Name Jai Is Travelling Along With Her Father In A Boat To The Island For Her Marriage. But The Area Is A Cyclone Prone Area And At That Time A Cyclone Was Hit To Them. All The Peoples Present In The Boat Survived Except The Girl Jai. After The Accident Many Fisherman Account Of Listening The Voice Of That Girl. As A result They Started Worshiping Her In A Temple. The Temple Got The Name Maa Kalijai From The Goddess Kali And The Girl Jai. Whoever Travel To The Chilika Lake Visit This Temple As It Is Belief That Visiting This Place Is A Good Omen. 

Maa Kalijai Temple Is Island By Water Of Lake Chilika. The Scenic Beauty Of The Place Cannot Be Described In Words. During Winter Season Many Migratory Birds Come To the Place. To Witness This Migratory Birds Many Tourist From All Over India And World Comes To This Place. It Is The largest Lagoon In India And Second Largest In The World. Apart From Birds One Can See The fishing Activities Which Was Going On The Lagoon. To Go To The Maa Kalijai Temple One Had To Hire Boats As It Is Only Reachable Through Water. The Travelling By Boat To This Temple Is Also A Heart Throbbing Things As One Can Witness The Beauties Of The Lagoon. 

According To A Poem By Pandit Godabarish Mishra, Jai Was A Girl Who was Going To Get Marriage In Parikud Island. The Boat capsized In The Storm. She Met Her Targic Death And Became The Deity Kalijai. However, Its Attributed To The Imagination Of The Poet And May Not Be Evidenced. Dr Radha Charan Panda Mentions In The History Of Parikud (1930) That this Temple Was Built By Sri Jagannath Mansigh, King Of Bankad (Currently Known As Banapur) In The Year 1717. Goddess Kalijai Is Actually Kali, The Source And The First "Mahavidya" Of "Dasmahavidyas". Highly Revered By The Local Populace, The Deity Has Been Venerated In The Local Folklore's And Legends. The Island Provides An Excellent Destination For Pilgrims As Well As Tourists. Every Year In January, A Huge Gala Fair Is Held During The Festival Of Makar Sankranti. 



How To Go ::-  Chilika Is Well Connected By Road In Odisha. All Govt And Private Boats Are Available Services To Kalijai Temple From Balugaon And Borkol. Nearest Railway Station Is Balugaon Railway Station. Nearest Airport Is Bhubaneswar Capital Of Odisha State.
